The Beuron School of Art

The quality of the artistic works, however, diminished with the rise of the school and increasing foreign influences. The severity was reduced to a mild form of popular sentiments; the dimensions became stiffened into a scheme. It took over forms and motifs from early Christian and Byzantine art as well as Pre-Raphaelite art and the Art Nouveau.
In the area of ecclesiastical artifacts, the aesthetic geometry was able to purify as well as clarify and simplify form. The main collection of artifacts and sacred vessels of the church and sacristy at Beuron consist, until this day, primarily of the artworks of their goldsmiths.
Only the first rigorous works of Pater Desiderius, and especially his art theories, influenced future developments in the art form.
