Lenz had brought his friend from the art academy, Jakob Wüger, and his student, Fridolin Steiner, on board to assist with the completion of the commission of the Maurus Chapel. All three entered the monastery and formed a working group.
As more commissions were given to this group, especially from Monte Cassino and Prague, all artistic talents from within the monastic community were added to the group and placed under the leadership of the Pater Desiderius Lenz. It was out of this group that the Beuron School emerged.
